Can Dermal Fillers Make Me Look Younger?

Injectable agents have revolutionized the anti-aging landscape, but sometimes it’s confusing to keep track of and differentiate between the different products available.

Some smooth and relax your skin by limiting the movement of your facial muscles through the injection of small amounts of neurotoxins — Botox is the original injectable that started it all — while dermal fillers involve injecting gel-like volumizing substances that plump wrinkles and folds.

Dr. Sharon Gertzman offers a broad range of effective, safe, and comfortably administered dermal fillers that brighten and rejuvenate your face quickly. She and our Serenity Medical Spa team are ready to answer all your questions about dermal fillers and help you decide which one is best for reaching your goals.

The very real advantages of dermal fillers

Our patients are consistently delighted with dermal fillers for several reasons:

When you consider these many benefits, it’s easy to understand why dermal fillers have exploded in popularity with people who want to look rejuvenated and refreshed, but not drastically “done.”

How do dermal fillers work, and what are my treatment choices?

As we all know, time, the elements, and lifestyle habits like smoking all age our skin. Rather than limiting facial muscle movements like neurotoxin-based injectables do, dermal fillers are injections of gel agents that fill wrinkles and add volume to parts of your face that may need it. The result is a fuller, softer appearance to your skin.

Dermal fillers work on everything from those marionette lines that form below the outer corners of your mouth, lip lines, crow’s feet around your eyes, vertical lines between your brows, and even acne scars. Additionally, treatments add volume to your cheeks and temples if your face has a sunken look, and they can also be used to improve the overall symmetry of your face.

Dermal fillers can even be used on your hands — another part of your body that betrays your age.

Dr. Gertzman offers excellent dermal filler options to her patients:

  1. Sculptra restores volume in your cheeks, nasal labial folds, and under your eyes, areas that often lose fat. Results are cumulative after several injections over a period of a few months; you may need periodic touch-up care but, again, these results last up to two years.
  2. Radiesse contains calcium-based microspheres in a water-based gel, and actually fuels the production of collagen, the connective tissue that gives your skin its resilience and elasticity. It works on facial wrinkles, sagging jowls, and your hands. Results typically last up to 12 months.
  3. Restylane is composed of a gel that also contains hyaluronic acid and once it’s injected, it works its magic by absorbing an amazing 1,000 times its weight in water to minimize wrinkles and enhance facial contours. Results last from about six months to a year.
  4. Restylane Silk contains smaller plumping particles and was developed specifically for lip enhancement and plumping the lines that emanate from your lips. After treatment, you enjoy fuller lips and a smoother lip area for 6-9 months.
  5. Restylane® Lyft used to be known as Perlane, and adds volume to wrinkled areas of your cheeks, around your nose and mouth, and your hands. It also helps those who have lost a large amount of weight and find that certain areas of their face or body need enhancement. Depending on where you receive the treatment, results can last anywhere from four months to a year-and-a-half.
  6. Restylane DeFyne is crafted with XpresHAn Technology™ to correct deepened lines and wrinkles and improve chin projection by correcting mild-to-moderate chin retrusion. This procedure is best used for people who have a chin retrusion or otherwise known as a “weak chin.”
  7. Restylane ReFyne is also crafted with XpresHAn Technology™ to help soften laugh lines to create a more natural facial expression when you’re smiling, frowning, or puckering up.
  8. Dysport treats mild to severe frown lines by reducing specific muscle activity. Wrinkles are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions. One injection into several points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move as expected.
  9. Botox® c is a prescription neurotoxin, similar to Dysport, that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet in adults. Botox lasts between 3 to 5 months.
  10. The RHA® Collection is designed to correct dynamic facial wrinkles that range from moderate to severe. These fillers are resilient enough to adapt to your facial movements, thus providing a more natural look. RHA fillers last approximately 9 to 18 months.
